United Next - How the Airline and Travel Industries Are Changing Post-COVID

Bob Barba, business development manager for United Airlines, has seen a lot of economic shifts in his 35 years with the airline, but the impact that COVID had worldwide is swiftly—and permanently—changing how we travel moving forward. Its effects are being felt all the way down the chain of transportation, including in our connected industry. Barba will discuss how the pandemic was an opportunity to mold a new paradigm at his company and reshape the critical role of corporate and personal transportation, as well as the positives to come out of a global slowdown that is quite possibly leading to stronger and more resilient businesses all over the world.

1:30pm - 3:15pm
Adapting Your Company Culture & Recruiting Practices to Find Top Talent

Finding and retaining staff has been a constant problem for our space, but how you attract and recruit post-COVID requires different strategies in an employee’s market. Robyn Goldenberg of Strategy Leaders and Simon Curtis of Curtis Gabriel will look at lessons from the trucking industry, explain how to use marketing data to attract new employees, and discuss how an operation can adjust their branding and external messaging to show a company culture that employees want to work for. Keeping in the “friendly competition” theme of the event, this session will come with a digital “playbook” to help implement what you’ve learned once you return to the office.

Do It Your Way: Phase Your Business in a Way That Works for You

Have you faced challenges over the past few years, or did you trade in last year’s problems for new ones? Most companies and owners have experienced tremendous reinventions recently—from nearly being out of business to having too much business, or from having to lay off employees to not being able to secure employees at all. Every business owner has their own personal story of triumph and defeat. Most of us pour our energy and attention into whatever comes our way without stepping back to chart a course that works for us personally. If you could wave a magic wand and achieve your ideal setup, what would that look like? What outrageous possibilities might you consider? What would you let go of, or focus more attention on?

Join COO, Consultant, and Executive Coach Barbara Burgess for a dynamic talk and workshop where she will invite you to rethink your assumptions about “what is” to chart a course for “what could be.” Think about what it would look like to do it your way, to design a business and lifestyle that work for you, and begin to phase your business in that personal, visionary direction.

11:15am to 1:00pm
Mergers, Acquisitions and Preparing for BIG Opportunities

Mergers and acquisitions are still on fire in this sector! In this highly interactive workshop, experienced M&A professionals Ken Lucci of Driving Transactions, Matt Daus of Windels Marx, and Tom Byrne of Kaptyn will walk you through financial and operational exercises and valuation techniques to prepare your company to explore buying, selling, or merging. They’ll also share their secrets of the “dance” between buyers and sellers, common pitfalls to avoid, as well as the legal, financial, and tax obligations that arise from both sides of the equation. Come with plenty of questions and get the answers you need.

2:15pm to 3:45pm
Interactive Roundtables: Classroom Competition

Your newly assigned team is facing its exciting first challenge, so do you have the mental fortitude and collective input to tackle these common situations as a group? It’s a race against the clock to see how well members of your team can collaborate, draw on experience, and creatively solve the issues that we present—just like a real-time crisis in your business. Challenges could range from the serious (accidents, losing a key employee, handling a sexual harassment claim) to the everyday (increasing rates, affiliate issues), so bring your A game, coopetition, and an open mind.
